The Demosthenes Toastmasters Club was chartered in May 1967 by employees of the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) District 4 Office in San Francisco. The chartering was sponsored by Toastmasters who were members of the Professional Engineers in California Government (PECG). The club moved with the Caltrans District 4 Office to Uptown Oakland in 1994. Our members celebrated the Club's 56th Anniversary in 2023!
Our Club is an "open" community club that welcomes members from the public. Most of our members are Caltrans employees - project managers, engineers, planners, and right-of-way agents, and support staff/ analysts. Some of our members are early in their careers but want to improve their speaking, listening, and leadership skills. Others are preparing their next phases of their lives. All of our members joined our Club out of the desire to improve their communication skills, leadership skills and self-confidence.
Our Club members have fun through social events such as happy hours, holiday luncheons and semi-annual potlucks.
There are many great Toastmasters clubs in the Oakland area, but what makes a club special is each individual club member. We are proud of the dedication and heart of our Club's membership, and we would love to include you in our Club!
Demosthenes Toastmaster Club adheres to the Toastmaster International's (new) Pathways educational program. Our club is one of five other clubs of Area 26, Division D of District 57 Toastmasters.
Hope to see you at our next meeting!

Last photo: MAY 2014 photo sent for Toastmasters Magazine consideration for club publicity. Foreground is the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge Troll (original), installed by ironworkers who were repairing damages to the original east span structure after the Loma Prieta Earthquake of 1989. The Troll was credited with protecting the original East Span (seen in the background) from further harm, until the East Span's replacement in 2013, A new Troll was installed on the new structure. Also seen in the photo was a copy of the May 2014 edition of the Toastmasters Magazine, a Toastmasters membership perk full of useful information.

Why it Works
